Valve too OP, plz nerf!
That is one bouncy jump animation.
Love when your CEO is a paranoid schizophrenic....
Hi-Rez only knows how to make online competitive based games, and even then they do it badly, mess up and shut them down. World would honestly be better off if they shut down, and Stuart fades into the abyss, never to be heard from again.
Doom 3 is still the outlier in the series if anything. And when talking about Quake... well... which one ? The first one is quite different from the others, so you can't say that Doom feels like Quake now because Quake doesn't even feels like Quake. Resident Evil has had an identity crisis since 4. Or even 3, since it's a lot more action-y than 1 and 2, RE4 went full action horror and changed the camera, 5 and 6 pushed it too far, 7 flipped the franchise on its head going first person, and since the remakes we're back to the RE4 formula... ( and that's not even counting the spin-offs and multiplayer games ). THAT is what I would call an identity crisis. But it's not a bad thing, games need to evolve ( as far as they don't evolve into RE6 again... )
It's ok hi-rez. Nobody wants to play deadlock. Not until they can prove that valve multiplayer games won't automatically be filled with bots. #FixTF2
Why would Valve risk their multi-billion dollar cash cow for a couple of million dollars from one game.
There is the nugget of an idea that game distributors shouldn't be involved in making games. there's a very obvious conflict of interest there, and it trends towards monopolization. if he had made that his salient point, he wouldn't have gotten dunked on so hard
Dunno if this is a poor assessment but having played through elden ring being familiar with the dark souls series but elden ring being my first, I didn't think it was that hard. I kind of just did a what feels neat build and got through the game pretty unscathed
Persona IS the spinoff Long live SMT
Look at the language they all use now. "market share" "providing content". The idea of just trying to create a good game as an art form is alien to them.
Every time I see Hi-Rez mentioned, I just get irrationally upset about Tribes Ascend.
I don't think there's a problem with Doom, if I picture Doom, especially what it's become with the newest incarnation, it's killing shit with big guns, rip and tear, fast paced combat, epic sound design, and Doom Guy. I don't think they've lost any of that by putting it in a different setting. Similarly Star Wars, I don't think Star Wars has a "this is a Star Wars game" core principles. They gave the licence to EA and they made "Battlefield, but Star Wars". They gave the licence to Ubisoft and they made "generic Ubisoft Jimmeny Cockthroat, but Star Wars". I'd say when it comes to lost identity, there are much bigger arguments for things like Assassin's Creed, which changed quite a lot with Black Flag and then became a completely different game with Origins. The moment that sneaking up behind an enemy and stabbing them with the hidden blade stopped being an instant kill, thats a completely different game. Call of Duty, it used to be that you always got a good, fun, short campaign and then you can fall into the multiplayer. Now they're multiplayer first, and if you've got time you can try the campaign we strung together at the last minute.
Congrats on doing well
Quite a bizzare game - it reminded me of something you'd play on the school computer to learn languages haha! Jack vibes from some of the voices too.
Did we really need ANOTHER Windbreaker Podcast where Yahtzee tells us how much he hates modern AAA games? We get it, you only like Half Life, Silent Hill 2, and Starstruck Vagabond.
4:12 just gotta catch up on Yahtzee's real british accent there
Phill, you literally chose to close two entire studios instead of guzzling less money without hesitation, you don't get to say you're "making the hard decisions & doing the best for the developers! developers! developers!" i don't trust XBox not closing more studios just so they could hoard IPs
Valve doesn't have to do anything because the all the competition is flailing frantically.
i just enjoy seeing Rich guys humiliate themselves in public & beg for laws that they don't realize it will affect them even harder
The fun thing is that Valve doesn't really.. do anything. They got a good platform, some old classics that are still being played en-masse and a well functioning storefront and support system.
They're not wrong, Valve is OP, but like.... man.... you're Hi-Rez. You don't exactly deserve anything.
1:06:38 very wise words from Yahtzee
What constitutes a "Bioshock" game?
Hi-Rez owns the Tribes, and Starsiege, and Earthsiege... Yet they only sort of care about Tribes... When it suits them... They should re-create Earthsiege and Starsiege! And when people asked if Tribes 3 would have the ability to have server-side scripting... They said no... They just do not understand what people want.
Why don't you make another lootbox about it Stewart? Seriously, dumb duck complains that they can't keep doing infinite growth? It was NEVER viable. To say nothing of the complaint about the "ability" to do something. Anyone with hands can strangle someone, there's a reason anti-monopoly laws punish abuse but no the ability. At this point I just hope yo support fresh and interesting ideas and projects so that when the market crashes people actually making video games will survive.
Smite back in the day was such a fun ride, but they took everything for granted and just wrecked it. Now their building a new game that's going to have all the same problems. I think the way they started treating their employees and community eventually was the writing on the wall, I mean the whole thing with punk duck literally just not being paid for a series he was hired to make is one of the things I remember, it almost feels like they pushed people away.
The problem with Valve is the same problem that we see with Amazon, Apple, Google, etc. They all both run the marketplace and they make the stuff being sold on that marketplace. Amazon killing off almost everyone they feel like with their Amazon Basics brand is all evidence one should need to understand that this is fundamentally bad for everyone except the platform holder. We absolutely need strict rules and regulations surrounding that stuff.
None of these games are visually appealing in the slightest. Did indie devs all just collectively forget that games are supposed to look good? Or at least not make your eyes bleed?
100% agree that Valve is overpowered in some ways. I have a very simple thought experiment for determining if a company is OP. I just imagine an ex-EA/Zynga suit being promoted to a decision-making position at that company. If that doesn't change anything - congrats - the company is normal. If that would suddenly screw everyone over - yup, overpowered.
47:03 I really miss when controversies were things like the Hot Coffee one or the Mass Effect being the lesbian s** game. They were good for a laugh 😂
43:13 guilty displeasures is a fun one. Mine is what Yahtzee describes as Ghost Train Rides. Modern God Of War style linear action games just don’t vibe with me.
Every time a company opens their mouth about Valve I hear the same drivel. "How dares Valve outcompete us by providing a quality service and not screwing over their user base at every turn to appease shareholders. It's not fair to expect us to be good at our jobs and actually value our customers and reputation." To quote the Heavy:" KEEP CRYING BABIES!"
Personally I think the new doom looks stupid. They need to just let the IP die already.
Excellent. Thank you.
Smite stopped being good when they changed Aracnid (spider lady, can't remember her name) she was so fun to play in her more OG form but then just became a standard assassin after a patch
Someone call the doctor cause Hi-Rez just got Frost Burn
Hi-rez killing one game after another and saying these things is CRAZY, they ripped off creators like Punk duck, Mythymoo in smite, more in paladins, (currently downgraded the servers and basically killed off the game off of CEO choices) My guy, wake up, your company deserves to be bankrupt if you don't let your devs who make amazing games actually do what they need and what the community wanted. I could go on for hours about this company and actually have in video form, (like 3 hours worth) Smite 2 is bound to fail if they handle it like any of their previous games. Purchase anything from Hi-rez at your own risk and knowing the game will most likely be dead in a year or two either way.
I'm disappointed that Dragon Age didn't really come up as an example of a series not sure what it is and many fans disagreeing on what it should be.
For anyone that’s bought the founders edition for smite 2. Best advice I’m gonna give you all year refund it while you can.
instead of doom, time to bring Quake 1 back 😤 Gothic horror mix shooter
Weel there is Aeon of Wrath, no wait, Wrath Aeon of Ruin, but it kinda sucks.
Really fascinating is watching the reviews of Talos Principle 1 and 2 back to back to see the change in style and attitude almost a decade can bring.
I hope Deadlock fails spectacularly #FixTF2
I like when frost says 'I know what I'm getting with a Nintendo game' then you pick up Bayonetta 3 and your wife gives you funny looks.
Boy HiRez CEO should be the last goddamn person talking shit about anyone else. Wonder what game he'll have the company dropkick to the curb next while chasing the next fad?
Everybody gangsta till they learn that capitalism is in favor of the big fish, not the smart ones. It's easy to imagine yourself as a super genius who'll convert all of that intelligence into hard cash, but the simple fact is that the guys who already have all the money have all the power.
The trailer for the new DOOM feels kind of _off_ to me. I get they want to make the game more ground-based, but the slower movement looks _boring._ Eternal was vertical as fuck, high speed and doomguy kind of squishy, and now the footage makes it feel like he's a city bus. Overall though, I think games are better when it's focused on a thing, and everything that doesn't improve _the core_ gets cut away. Like building a racecar: It needs to go fast. Bigger engine? Put it in. Passenger seats? out. Turbo? Yes. A fridge in the trunk? Fuck no.
So just take your games off Steam Hi-Rez... ...good luck ;)
I must admit, I was on board with criticising the capitalists, but your seemingly genuine fawning over Capitalism as a system just because this state of it appeals to you was rather sickening, the "belt tightening" isn't just some abstract, it's the actual workers losing their livelihoods, the little guy being the only ones meaningfully hurt during these times of trouble, while the executive class continue to fail upwards even if they are getting into slapfights with each other. If that cavalier attitude was not your intent, then I owe an apology, but if I'm spot on? maaaybe some introspection is due.
Hi-rez needs to work on their character movement and camera. Smite Looks like trash. P.s. I'm still mad about tribes ascend.
